ABOUT US
We Teach The Creative Process!
At The Learning Edge Centre, we do not just get children to memorise words and phrases. We teach them the creative process and empower them with the thinking tools to write, ‘The beginning, the middle and the end.’
Absolutely. Our primary school children spend a lot of time doing multiple choice questions, cloze passages and fill in the blank questions.
As such, a lot of children are very comfortable with MCQs and filling in the blanks type of questions. However, they are uncomfortable with writing.
Writing reinforces the school’s English syllabus
Since the main purpose of learning English is to WRITE, children ought to attend a writing class every week to COMPLEMENT the school’s English syllabus, that way they can APPLY and integrate what they learn in English class based on understanding and usage.
Like batteries connected to form a light. In this case, the light is the SENTENCE and the BATTERIES are like the components of the English syllabus, grammar, vocabulary and etc.
The truth - children do not have enough practise!
Due to the insufficient practise of writing in schools, there is a BIG DISCONNECT between what they are learning (Paper 2 components) and the application of it, which is (Paper 1 writing). We need to bear in mind that the reason why we learn English, apart from reading, is to WRITE.
Our Creative Writing classes complement the English teaching framework by helping children integrate what they learn in English class, they ensure that pupils develop a mastery of skilful writing.
Learning to write at an early age is important.
The truth is, writing skills take a long time to master, that is why joining a writing class at an early age is important. Practicing without guidance is futile when it comes to writing. In most cases, students end up writing the same ordinary stories. They end up being stuck in the circle of their own inexperience. The skill of writing can only be learned through practice and proper guidance.
